When did you start CrossFit?
I started in December 2014. I’m one of the old veterans.
I had back pain for years. I had been to several doctors, had injections into my back and was debating surgery. One of the doctors I met with recommended more intense exercise to strengthen my core and help take the pressure off a bad disc. So, I essentially tried CrossFit as a last resort before surgery. Four years later I am close to one of my goals of a 500# deadlift. With no back pain. Crazy right??
Tell us your first impressions: There were only 3 other people in my first class. One was a pregnant lady and one was a guy at least 20 years older than me. In my head I’m thinking this shouldn’t be so bad. They. Killed. Me. Turns out those two were Brittany Pocock and John Fuller. I walked into a firestorm, but I was hooked.
Favorite CFK memory? Honestly every day is fun.
I typically hit the noon class to break up sitting at a desk most of the day. Going in for an hour and pushing yourself with a great group of people makes all the difference. In my opinion you can say you are going to work out on your own, but I’m going to say 99% of people will get a better workout and have a whole lot more fun if they do it in a group setting.
Tell us about interests outside the gym: My beautiful wife and I have 4 kids. So, we are essentially chauffeurs and fans at sporting events every night. It’s a crazy schedule with all 4 of them playing, but we enjoy it.
I just want to thank JP for creating an awesome environment downtown. The coaches and equipment are top notch and the CrossFit members really are above average humans. Both in and out of the gym they truly are good people. If you have never tried CrossFit I can’t recommend it enough. It changed my life. Don’t wait to get in shape before you start, just start. You won’t regret it.
