It’s member spotlight day! Our interview this week is with Dave Calland and it’s a great one, so let’s get right to it!
How long have you been coming to CrossFit?
I started Crossfit in July of 2018.
What first brought you in?
My friend Anna Lee told me she really like the gym. And said the classes were good and she thought I would also like them.
What was your first impression?
As I started training with JP during the on ramp classes, I realized he was very concerned that I learn the correct techniques to prevent injuries. The good news is that ALL the trainers have the same concerns and work with me to improve my techniques.
What was your first “bright spot” and what are you working on now?
My “Bright Spot” is I am not bored. Every day is different. The one hour class just flies by. The trainers make the class fun and the people in the classes are very helpful. Well maybe the burpees aren’t fun.
I am not good at any of the movements, so I continue to try to get better at everything. My goal is to get in better shape and to be able to move and be more flexible.
What’s your favorite CrossFit Katana memory?
My favorite memory has to be the people and the trainers in the classes. They are so supportive and understanding. I know I will never be able to perform at the level they can but, they still cheer me on. Just a great bunch of people.
What other interests take up your time when you’re not at the gym?
I like to spend time at the lake on my houseboat with my family and our friends. I enjoy traveling with my friend Anna Lee and spending time with my children and grand children.
Feel free to add anything else that you want to share!
Two and a half years ago I lost my wife of 47 years to cancer. She battled this dreaded monster for six years. After she passed my son and I decided to ride the Pelotonia fundraiser for the James Hospital at Ohio State. This was one of the reasons I wanted to start getting in better shape.
