Our member spotlight this week is on a couple who are newer members: Michael and Leanne Beer!
What brought you to CrossFit with us?
We started researching CrossFit during the summer because we wanted a change in our workout routines. We began by just googling “CrossFit workouts”, watching YouTube videos, listening to podcasts, and following CrossFit athletes on social media. At the time we belonged to the YMCA in Shelby and started doing our own WODs using their facility. While I was away for a training school, Leanne found CrossFit Katana and started the On Ramp program. She would tell me all about the facility and send the workouts to me in Texas. It wasn’t until I got back and involved in the gym, that I knew how much we both needed the community and camaraderie that CrossFit Katana provides.
What was your first impression?
Leanne first scoped out CrossFit Katana. She was excited yet very overwhelmed and intimidated when she first started. I also had those same feelings. Overtime, the coaches, staff, and gym members changed our worries into excitement. The people at the gym are encouraging, motivational and inspirational.
What was your first “bright spot” and what are you working on now?
Leanne PR’d on dead lift this past week. She is working diligently on her pull ups and hand stand push ups.
I back squatted 315 for the first time in a long time. I am working on building endurance and mastering the complex movements.
Tell us about life outside the gym: We are active members in our church. We love to travel together to new places. We are often exploring new coffee shops, restaurants, trails and lighthouses. Most of all we enjoy being outdoors. Individually, I like to hunt and Leanne enjoys cooking.
Feel free to add anything else that you want to share!
We cannot thank the staff and people enough for completely changing our lives. We look forward to our time in the gym daily. We are happy to have found a gym to finally call home!
