This week’s member spotlight is on Danielle Hower! You can catch her in class at 6pm most evenings or you can try to keep up with her running a local 5K! Here is her interview:
How long have you been coming to CrossFit?
I have been coming to Crossfit since June. When I walked in to CrossFit Katana, I was immediately impressed by the coaching staff and the community. The coaches are so knowledgeable and make all the workouts attainable for anyone. It is such a positive environment, where everyone is cheering each other on and pushing themselves to do their best.
What convinced you to try it in the first place?
In June, I attempted my first obstacle course race. I had been training at some other gyms for the race, but was not consistent and wasn’t really sure what to do when I went to the gym. Crossfit has changed my attitude about fitness. Before I dreaded going to the gym (when I went) and didn’t have the motivation/knowledge to implement a workout. Now, I can actually say I am excited to work out everyday. The workouts are well planned and I can see measurable progress in my fitness abilities, I see results while having fun. I am looking forward to running another obstacle course race and even trying a Crossfit competition!
What was your initial impression and how has that changed?
I was really nervous trying Crossfit since I had never attempted weightlifting before. I thought going into the gym I would feel uncomfortable learning in front of seasoned crossfitters. I was quick to learn that everyone was so supportive and encouraging, and at a different stage of their fitness journey. The coaches were able to accommodate to so many levels for the class.
Tell us about a “bright spot” and what you are you working on now:
I was so excited to climb the rope for the first time. I am currently working on pull-ups!
What other interests take up your time when you’re not at the gym?
I also enjoy doing 5k races with my family, hiking, and playing board games.
